"Dissecting the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act of 2017:

A Phoenix Tax Workshop Roadshow for Financial Planners"

Program Description:  SUPER CEvent: 3+ hours of CFP(R) CE

Welcome to Ira Feldman, Steve Rodis, and fellow Tax Professionals from the Phoenix Tax Workshop.
Ira and Steve have invited Curtis Black, Christopher Coots, and Eliot Kaplan to reprise their Phoenix Tax Workshop peer presentations regarding the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act of 2017 and any pending/discussed Arizona State tax legislation - for your dissection and digestion.
It may seem crazy to describe a planned set of presentations on Tax Code as lively and energetic, but that is what we are seeking from these pros - useful and detailed handouts with information that is relevant to the financial planning process, delivered in an interactive Q&A style.
    Learning Objectives:
    Attendees will:
    1) Become aware of Arizona State proposed legislation relevant to income, gift or estate tax planners
    2) Understand where the new Tax Cuts and Jobs Act of 2017 directly impacts the financial planning discussions with clients and may require updates to existing financial plans.
    3) Identify how the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act of 2017 may change the corporate structures of many small business
    4) Learn where to go for more detailed and practical implication information on separate sections of the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act of 2017
    5) Gain tools and resources to help communicate changes and impacts with and to clients

Be one of the first 25 to register and receive our VIP welcome!

    Communicating Economic and Financial Concepts

ccccccxxlx nnjm kjdkimage from Flickr Creative Commons: US Department of Education

    Program Description:

When you meet with your clients and prospective clients, how engaged are they in what you are trying to convey?  What is the energy in the room like?  How much do they recall from your meeting 3 days later?

Would you like to find new ideas and better ways to have fun, interactive, and impactful conversations and presentations with your colleagues, clients and prospects?

We learned about Kahoot! from prior workshops with our chapter MOU partner Elena Zee and the Arizona Council on Economic Education.   That tool has changed how Ethics is delivered in Arizona in a magnificent way...

We can't wait to see more tricks and tools they have put to use in their classroom that you might be able to put to work in your office!

Join Educator Extraordinaire  Megan Bird - 2017  Economic Education Teacher of the year -  and learn about new ideas and technology tools.   Enhance your ability to communicate with your clients about economic and investment principles, strategic concepts, and the financial options and plans that you develop together.
    Learning Objectives and Takeaways
    • Exposure to Educational theory about how people absorb information differently
    • Discover new technology tools that add experiential learning to your conference room
    • Identify where and how to optimally insert technology into your meetings
    • Practice using some selected new tools
    • Leave with a list of new tools and ideas ready to start using with your teams the next day.
2 hours of CFP(R) CE Credit will be requested under Principal Knowledge Topics of client and planner attitudes, values, biases and behavioral finance and Principles of communication and counseling.  We do not know if credit will be granted - this is a very different type of program.

Note:  Workshop events provide opportunities for our planners to interact with experiential learning experts.  The topics are chosen because they can help us solve problems, improve productivity or profitability, reduce risk, ease compliance, or in some way help you work less, earn more, and produce better results for your clients.  Workshops are intended to provide you with immediate takeaways and new resources.  The may on occasion, but are not expected to, provide professional CE credits.

    "The Sticky Ethical Wickets in

    Estate and Financial Planning"

    Dr. Marianne Moody Jennings

Emeritus Professor of Legal and Ethical Studies

    Program Description:
There are statutory duties, there are codified ethical responsibilities, and then there are the realities of relatives, temptation, fiduciary confusion, and client capacity.  A look at the ethical issues that arise the most and those that create the most difficulties and how to use a structured decision-making model in evaluating what you need to do when caught in the wickets.
    Learning Objectives:

    • Review a current overview - and then specific instances - of professional ethical violations among Arizona estate, investment, tax and financial planning professionals.
    • Understand how and where lapses of ethics in professional practice are most likely to occur
    • Discuss situations and business practices and models and their impact on ethical professional practice.
    • Identify relevance to the Fiduciary Standard and the Fiduciary Rule

Note:  This program cannot be submitted for CFP(R) CE credit, as it does not follow the specific learning objectives required by the CFP(R) Board of Standards for CFP(R) Ethics Credit.  Many of our members have noted, tongue in cheek, that attending board approved required Ethics courses has much to do with discussing rules and processes, but very little to do with Ethics.  This program is delightfully, usefully truly about Ethics...

This program may qualify for continuing legal education Ethics credit.

A Professional Field Trip to the

Federal Reserve Bank of San Francisco

    Phoenix Office

    Field Trip Description:
As the essential hub our financial planning community, this field trip offers our members and potential members an opportunity to come together affordably to tour a venue very few people will ever see.
Dealing with financial issues inherently involves money.  We study the economy, the stock market, investment news, finance and tax strategies, and so much more - but we rarely pay any attention to the actual currency in our hands and moving through our banking system.  It may seem like so much of our financial lives are virtual and cash is no longer king...but don't tell that to the Federal Reserve Banks.
During  this tour, we will witness cash operations.  Visitors generally witness millions in deposits being counted by vault workers and processed by high speed machines, shredded by highly sensitive lasers, and stored in their vault.
    You will:
    • Re-establish your familiarity with money as a medium of exchange and the importance of creating it, storing it, moving it, and destroying it in a manner that effectively maintains public confidence in its authenticity.
    • Enjoy the company and learn from the questions of your fellow chapter financial planners and associated professionals.

This field trip requires a minimum of 10 persons, with a maximum of 25.

Registration is open to chapter members, partners, and NexGen from 2/20 to 6/19.

If space remains available, registration for non members is open from 6/1 - 6/19.

No registrations will be accepted after June 19th.

1 hour of CFP(R) CE credit will be requested for the Principle Knowledge topic of Cash Flow Management.

    Members: $10
    Non Members: $20
